Short answer

Metro Detroit hail inspections are free and fully documented. We work the whole roof, mark test squares on each slope, and separate genuine hail bruising from the wind creasing that so often arrives with it in southeast Michigan. Call 1-800-564-6232, answered 24 hours a day.

Why Detroit roofs take hail the way they do

Southeast Michigan does not get the giant-hail supercells that Kansas and Nebraska do. What it gets are fast, wind-driven squall lines that carry pea to quarter-size hail sideways. That distinction matters enormously for your claim, because wind-driven hail concentrates damage on one or two elevations instead of spreading it evenly across the roof. Adjusters who inspect only the front slope routinely miss it. We inspect all four elevations and the soft metals on every single Detroit-area roof, because on this side of the state the west and south faces usually tell the real story.

The roofs we see in this metro

Metro Detroit has an enormous inventory of postwar ranches and colonials through Warren, Livonia and Dearborn, most of which have been reroofed at least twice. Layered shingles are common here, and a second layer over a first changes how hail reads on the surface. A strike that would bruise the mat on a single layer can instead crush both layers and leave a soft spot you can feel with a thumb. Newer subdivisions in Oakland County generally wear architectural laminates that hide damage well from the ground and show it clearly once you are on the slope.

What that means for your claim in Detroit

Steel and aluminum are everywhere on Detroit-area homes: gutter faces, downspouts, garage doors, window wraps, and the air conditioning fins on the side of the house. Those soft metals are the honest witnesses in a hail claim. When a roof looks marginal but the AC fins are pocked and the downspouts are dimpled, that is a documented storm and we build the file around it.

1. Hail and wind, both

Detroit storms almost never bring one without the other. We document both perils because a hail-only scope leaves wind damage unpaid.

2. Photographed before we touch it

Dated images of every elevation and every soft metal, delivered to you as a file you own.

3. Warranty from a real company

Family-run since 1947, with crews who will still answer the phone when a flashing detail needs attention in 2031.

Storm damage does not wait, and neither do we

A southeast Michigan squall line can come through, clear off, and be followed by another band inside of six hours. That gap is the whole window. We dispatch tarping crews across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb around the clock, and an active leak goes ahead of every routine inspection on the board.

Common questions from Detroit homeowners

The hail here was small. Is it even worth an inspection?
Often yes. Pea and dime-size hail driven by 60 mph straight-line winds can do more to a west-facing slope than larger hail falling straight down. Wind-driven hail is a real and recognized damage category, and it is the most commonly missed one in metro Detroit.
My roof has two layers of shingles. Does that change anything?
It changes the inspection and it can change the claim. Hail on a double-layer roof often crushes rather than bruises, and most insurance policies will not pay to lay a third layer, so a covered loss on a two-layer roof usually means a full tear-off. We identify layer count on the first visit so nobody is surprised later.
Do you serve Oakland and Macomb County as well as Wayne?
All three, plus Washtenaw and Livingston. One number reaches dispatch for the whole metro: 1-800-564-6232.
